Propecia LawyerMany patients suffering from male pattern baldness utilize Propecia (generic: finasteride) to promote hair growth on the scalp area. Unfortunately, patients who use this medication may experience catastrophic Propecia side effects. Adverse health reports have recently demonstrated that Propecia may cause persistent sexual dysfunction, impotence, erectile dysfunction and even the development of both Propecia prostate cancer and male breast cancer.

Propecia Background

Merck & Co. introduced Propecia into the U.S. market in 1997, where it was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be used as a method of promoting healthy hair growth in the scalp. Propecia’s active ingredient, finasteride, was developed as a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that has the inherent ability to treat male pattern baldness by preventing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which prevents hair growth. DHT is a substance in the body that can shrink hair follicles until they no longer produces visible hair. As a result, the scalp is able to foster a healthier head of hair.

Unfortunately, anyone who has taken or plans to use Propecia may increase their risk of developing extremely hazardous side effects. Adverse health reports indicate that Propecia may be responsible for a decrease in sexual desire, impotence, erectile dysfunction and the development of male breast cancer. Due to the severity of these side effects, a Propecia lawyer is ready to help any plaintiff in their potential Propecia lawsuit.

Propecia Side Effects

Our Propecia lawyers are currently evaluating the following side effects for potential Propecia lawsuits:

  • Breast enlargement/tenderness
  • Prostate cancer
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Complications with ejaculation
  • Impotence
  • Testicular pain
  • Prolonged erectile dysfunction
  • Male breast cancer
  • Persistent sexual dysfunction

Propecia Prostate Cancer

The continual use of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors like Propecia may result in men developing high-grade prostate cancer, a cancer recognized as an aggressive form of the already dangerous prostate cancer. Its name is derived from the rate in which it metastasizes. Propecia prostate cancer has the ability to spread much faster than low-grade prostate cancer. Due to the inherent dangers of sever forms of cancer, many men have sought compensation for their pain and suffering by filing a Propecia prostate cancer lawsuit.

Propecia Persistent Sexual Dysfunction

Researchers conducted a clinical trial with 71 seemingly healthy men 21–46 years of age who reported instances of sexual side effects associated with the strict use of Propecia. Many symptoms persisted for at least 3 months despite the discontinuation of the hair growing medication.
Of the men who had reported events of sexual dysfunction after the use of finasteride; 94% developed low libido, 92% developed erectile dysfunction, 92% developed decreased arousal, and 69% developed problems with orgasm. Their average number of sexual episodes every month decreased and the total sexual dysfunction score increased for before and after Propecia use according to the Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (P < 0.0001 for both). The average timetable of Propecia use was 28 months and the mean duration of persistent sexual side effects was 40 months from the time of finasteride cessation to the interview date. Due to the results of this study, numerous Propecia lawsuits have been filed against Merck & Co.
